The Four Directions and the Seven Methods of Encouragement

One-minute manager co-author Ken Blanchard once said "catch someone doing something right." There are significant differences between those organizations that encourage and empower individuals and those that do not. Those differences can and will be identified in the workshop.

This workshop will focus on specific ways of making a more positive work environment. The four directions include a downward, lateral, upward, and inward system's application of encouragement. The workshop will also provide seven specific ways that supervisors can be more encouraging.

Reflections on 30 years as a psychologist: 33 Leadership and Mentoring Suggestions

The presenter reflects on three decades in various organization leadership and consulting roles ranging from professional football, president of Hawaii International Institute, consultant to organizations, and now Director of Organization Development for a Toronto based university. Here is an example of seven of the leadership lessons learned...

1. Beware the unquestioned assumption.
2. Get a mentor, someone who encourages, who walks the talk, but who also inspires you to stand on his or her shoulders to envision a higher place by refining it, improving it, and/or inventing it.
3. Be a principle-centered person by using the wisdom of Stephen Covey and others.
4. Remember that ultimately the path of service is the path of the heart.
5. Reframing is an essential leadership skill. Practice "ascribing noble intention" instead of utilizing "negative attribution" with others.
6. If your part of the 25% of Americans that do not take vacations do……
7. Practice what Tony Robbins calls "CANEI"-constantly and never ending improvement
